The new third-generation development builds on the experience gained over the years aimed to preserve the important immunological and immunomodulatory properties while improving on characterisation and by addressing the safety aspects of saponin adjuvant components.

In a number of animal vaccination experiments using ISCOM formulations, protective immunity has been achieved in comparison to the failure of other vaccine formulations. The reason for the potent efficacy observed in so many different vaccine trials and many species is a result of the balanced recruitment of the different arms of the immune system in combination with the strong immune modulatory effect of these ISCOM formulations.

A vaccine candidate based on a Fibronectin Binding (FnBP) protein in combination with a Bovine Matrix formulation has shown excellent antibody response in first series of small field trials.

To prove the efficacy of the AbISCO® adjuvants a comparison with other adjuvants was performed. AbISCO® adjuvant generated the highest antibody titers when inducing antibody response to ovalbumin. AbISCO® adjuvant also induced the highest proliferation index and
also gave consistently high production levels
of IFN-γ, IL-4 and IL-5.
